Counseling
"I believe that children come first. I believe that children deserve to be challenged. I believe the things we do best are the things we do together. I believe that kids' opinions matter. Children come first. I believe because I am the counselor." Roberto
This motto guides each day as I enter into the opportunities to serve the children, family and staff of CES. I have been a part of the CISD family for 29 years; as a classroom teacher for 4 years and counselor for 25 yrs. My formal education began with a B.S. in Elementary Education with Kindergarten endorsement from East Texas State University; Masters of Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina postgraduate work towards a doctorate and a Counseling Certification from Texas A&M-Commerce. I have taught early childhood, elementary and university students in South Carolina and Texas as well as directed an early childhood center for 2-5 year olds.
Currently, I enjoy serving our community through volunteer work with First Baptist Church, Psychology Club, Clothe-a-Child,Commerce Public Library Board and Garden Club. I have been a part of the Commerce community for 45 years.
Growing up in Garland, Texas and having grandparents in Wolfe City and 'just over the river' between Bonham and Durant, I found attending college in Commerce to be a natural choice. The decision to move back to Commerce after graduate school and to remain here was a positive move for my family.
I have a daughter, Allison who was raised in Commerce and attended CISD schools from kindergarten through high school. The education, encouragement and enrichment she received equipped her to be successful at Texas A & M, College Station for her undergraduate degree, complete a MA at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and her PhD in English at TAMU-C. Currently she is an Assistant Professor teaching English at Navarro College.
